Study on the Synthesis of Epoxy Bacterial Cellulose

Abstract
Epoxy bacterial cellulose(EBC) was synthesized by the reaction of bacterial cellulose(BC) and epoxy chloropropane(EC) in a heterogeneous system. Various reaction conditions, such as the temperature, the reaction time, the concentration of EC and NaOH, had important effects on the content of epoxy groups. The results showed that under the optimal experimental condition(35℃, 3 h, 0.5 g BC, 40 mL EC and 30 mL 30% NaOH), 2.781mmol∙g-1 of epoxy groups were obtained. The products were also characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).
