Abstract:
Perna viridis is a widely distributed warm-water marine economic shellfish, which is often attaches to hard substrates such as rocks, seaweeds, or ship bottoms via byssus. In order to explore the effect of light intensity on the byssal secretion and foot movement behavior of
P. viridis, video monitoring technology was used to compare the byssus secretion rate, byssus secretion number, foot movement rate, and total foot movement distance under different light intensities. The results showed that the survival rate ( 97.20±1.90 % ), byssus secretion rate ( 51.40±4.50 % ), byssus secretion number ( 13.50±1.11 ), foot movement rate ( 77.11±2.30 % ) and total movement distance ( 32.38±15.91 cm ) of
P. viridis in 0 lx ( dark ) group were the highest, while those in
1200 lx group were significantly decreased ( 75.00±2.00 %, 3.67±1.20 %, 2.50±0.50, 48.11±9.33 %, 13.82±6.00 cm,
P < 0.05 ). In addition, regardless of whether the mussels secreted byssus, the foot movement distance initially increased with light intensity, reaching its maximum at 300 lx ( 71.50±2.67 cm and 23.95±1.79 cm ) , and then decreased with further increases in light intensity. These findings can provide data support for the artificial aquaculture and ecological restoration of
P. viridis.
